Kapawe’no First Nation – The Education Assistant will be required to assist the teachers in carrying out the educational mission of Kapawe’no First Nation Collegiate and make the educational experiences of children more rewarding.
Education Assistants are under the auspices of the Principals of the school and they are also required to report to the Teachers.
The Educational Assistant will have specific responsibilities for :
- Deliver activities that reinforce and advance the learning program.
- Some students may have complex needs. These may include medical, physical and / or learning needs and may require daily care.
- Work directly with students as directed by the Teacher.
- Prepare required educational materials.
- Observe student behaviour and provide information to the Teacher.
- Review and prepare all documents and reports as required by the Teacher.
- Assist the Teacher in determining a course of action for students.
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality in all interactions.
- Meet regularly with the Teacher to discuss student progress and learning needs.
- Assist in preparing materials, creating displays, and undertaking other supportive activities.
- Work within established structures, including classroom management structures, behavioural rules, and IPP and Behaviour Plan expectations.
- Clarify elements of the lesson for students who are having trouble.
- Supervise reinforcement activities.
- Implement specific techniques, strategies, and language as directed by the Teacher.
- Collect data for use in student evaluation.
- Mark objective tests for the Teacher to review.
- Report to Teachers on students’ strengths, achievements and needs.
- Report to Teachers on observed student behaviours and outcomes.
- May be required to supervise students.
- Performs other duties assigned by the school principal
- Keep up to date on school, district and relevant policies.
- Volunteer Hours for certain after hour school activities are mandatory.
Qualifications
- High school diploma required.
- ECD training.
- One (1) to two (2) years of experience working with children.
- Clear criminal record check and Intervention Record Check.
- Ability to speak Cree or willingness to learn is considered an asset.

- Knowledge computers, ipads, whiteboards and other school resource material.
- Strong interpersonal skills, must be able to talk to parents regarding their children.
- Strong verbal skills to communicate with all levels of the management team
