  1. Cultural Respect and Preservation: To honor and respect our ancestral cultures, traditions, and languages, and to work towards their preservation and revitalization;
  2. Inclusivity and Equity: To provide equitable access to quality learning for all First Nation students, regardless of their location, background, or circumstances;
  3. Nation Engagement: To actively involve and engage with the local Nations and Indigenous communities, Elders, and knowledge keepers to ensure the curriculum and approach are culturally relevant and meaningful;
  4. Holistic Learning: To offer a well-rounded learning that includes cultural teachings, traditional knowledge, and values alongside academic subjects.

  6. Empowerment: To empower students to become leaders, thinkers, and contributors to their nations and the broader society;
  7. Sustainability: To ensure the sustainability of Indigenous cultures and languages by incorporating them into the educational experience.

3.0 Our Three Learning Pathways

Through our partnership with SCcyber, students now have access to three flexible and supportive learning pathways designed to meet a variety of needs and goals on their journey to academic success.

Technology Access:

  • Students enrolled in the SCcyber Online Learning and Outreach Program will automatically receive a school-issued laptop to support their studies.

  • Students in the Adult Education program can request a laptop if needed to ensure equitable access to learning.

SCcyber Online Learning (Intensive & Structured)
For highly motivated, independent learners in Grades 7–12.

  • Daily online attendance is required, with structured coursework, deadlines, and high expectations.

  • Core subjects, CTS, and electives are available, with Alberta-accredited high school credits.

  • Flipped Classroom Approach: Pre-recorded lessons and assignments accessed through Moodle.

  • Weekly progress reports are sent to teachers and mentors.

?? New students begin with 2 courses per semester, but future course loads will depend on performance and progress.
?? Students who do not submit any assignments before the withdrawal deadline will be automatically withdrawn from SCcyber and placed into the Outreach Program to better support their needs.
?? Students who struggle with a two-course workload will be limited to one course per semester. If they complete it early, they may be registered in a second course mid-semester.
?? In-person students may take only one SCcyber course per semester.

Outreach Program (Independent, Google Classroom-Based Learning)
For students who prefer self-paced learning or lack reliable internet access for live instruction.

  • All materials and assignments are provided through Google Classroom.

  • Students are responsible for completing and submitting their work independently.

  • Minimal direct instruction, but teacher support is available by appointment when needed.

  • Suitable for students who require a flexible learning structure.

?? Printed workbooks are available by request for students who prefer paper-based learning. These can be ordered at a cost of $30 per subject.

Adult Education with SCcyber
For adult learners looking to complete or upgrade high school education.

  • Flexible, structured online courses tailored to adult learners.

  • Bridging courses are available to help ease the transition back into academics by covering essential Junior High concepts.

  • Includes career-oriented CTS courses, Alberta high school credits, and upgrading opportunities.

?? First-time adult learners will be limited to one course per semester. They may become eligible to take more courses in future semesters once they demonstrate consistent engagement and assignment completion.

4.0 The Role of Parental Engagement

Parental involvement is essential to student success in online learning. Parents play a key role in:

  • Accountability & Motivation: Ensuring students attend daily, complete assignments, and stay engaged.
  • Routine & Structure: Establishing a study routine and a distraction-free learning space.
  • Progress Monitoring: Checking weekly progress reports and supporting time management.
  • Communication with Teachers & Mentors: Encouraging students to seek help and scheduling extra support when needed.
