Kapawe’no First Nation – Through our KFN Collegiate, join our team as the Kapawe’no Kaskihtayanih (Outreach / Adult Learning) Coordinator, where your leadership will be pivotal in guiding lifelong learning towards excellence. As the Coordinator, you will oversee critical aspects of our Kapawe’no Kaskihtayanih environment, fostering a nurturing and thriving the centre for students, staff, and parents. Your role is multifaceted, encompassing a wide range of responsibilities that are essential to the success of our centre.

You play a central role in fostering a sense of pride and identity within our Kapawe’no Kaskihtayanih, embodying the spirit of Muskwak excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

1.0    Learning Leadership:

  • Execute the Strategic Plan, profile and create a yearly plan ensuring alignment with our vision for academic excellence;
  • Oversee the implementation of new initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of learning provided;
  • Foster positive public relations within our Kapawe’no Kaskihtayanih and the broader public;
  • Lead disciplinary efforts, including tracking and report generation, to maintain a safe and productive learning environment;
  • Engage actively in communications and media management to promote the achievements and activities of Kapawe’no Kaskihtayanih;
  • Collaborate closely with external agencies and partners to strengthen community connections in the digital realm;
  • Collaborate and visit with our Nation members and students, work with them and assist goal setting.

2.0    Administrative Duties:

  • Coordinate attendance records for our learners and follow up on any attendance-related matters;
  • Provide supervision and evaluations for our virtual teaching staff, fostering a culture of continuous professional development;
  • Establish and maintain strong connections, including one-on-one virtual meetings with staff;
  • Manage Kapawe’no Kaskihtayanih’s online presence, ensuring it conveys important information effectively;
  • Oversee support for students with diverse requirements;
  • Facilitate the coordination of our Strategic Plan in the Kapawe’no Kaskihtayanih ’s environment and maintain digital archives;
  • Enhance communication within our KFN Collegiate and other staff through various digital channels;
  • Set yearly calendar dates for online activities and manage lateness, absences, and attendance follow-up;
  • Organize and oversee special virtual events and online extracurricular activities;
  • Plan and execute professional development days, with a focus on enhancing literacy skills in the online environment;
  • Promote social justice activities and community engagement in the virtual realm;
  • Manage online teaching/learning timelines and oversee the creation and distribution of virtual staff handbooks;
  • Conduct one-on-one virtual meetings with staff to ensure clear communication in the digital landscape;
  • Prepare and review digital report cards and liaise with relevant stakeholders;
  • Develop online timetables and virtual classroom assignments to optimize online learning;
  • Manage the Power School Student Information System, including digital report cards and demographic information;
  • Manage online protocols, digital food services, and virtual event setup, including coordinating online cook bookings;

3.0    Promotion and Recruitment:

  • Develop and execute a strategic plan for promoting the Kapawe’no Kaskihtayanih and attracting talented educators and support staff to our virtual school;
  • Utilize digital marketing strategies, including social media campaigns, to raise awareness about Kapawe’no Kaskihtayanih and its unique offerings;
  • Collaborate with educational networks and organizations to actively promote our virtual school within the wider learning circle;
  • Engage in outreach efforts to recruit experienced online educators and professionals who share our commitment to excellence in virtual education;
  • Leverage online platforms and job boards to advertise open positions and encourage qualified candidates to apply;
  • Organize virtual information sessions and webinars to provide prospective staff members with insights into Kapawe’no Kaskihtayanih’s culture, mission, and opportunities;
  • Foster positive relationships with local, national, and international educational institutions to establish a pipeline of potential recruits;
  • Participate in virtual education conferences and forums to network with educators and showcase the benefits of working at the Kapawe’no Kaskihtayanih.

Your role as the Coordinator of Kapawe’no Kaskihtayanih is instrumental in shaping the future of our learners and fostering a supportive learning circle. 4.0   Qualifications

  • Speak and understand Nehiyawewin.
  • Traditional Nehiyawak Knowledge and experience in the area of balance.
  • Experience and knowledge or Bachelor’s degree or certification in Learning and Studies, Social Work and any wellness/wellbeing learning.
  • Experience working with our Nations and a deep understanding of Nehiyawak Pimachihowin and Wakotowin.
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, Elders, and the nation.
  • Experience with peacemaking (restorative justice) and alternative peacekeeping methods is an asset.

5.0   Preferred Attributes

  • Fluent or willing to learn and speak Nehiyawewin Passionate about promoting cultural diversity and inclusivity in an educational setting.
  • Ability to inspire and engage students in cultural learning and activities.
  • Respectful and sensitive to the cultural needs and traditions of First Nations students and their families.

6.0   Working Conditions

  • Full-time position (Monday to Friday) with regular working hours; occasional evenings and weekends may be required for nation events and programs.
  • The role involves working in a dynamic school environment and participating in indoor / outdoor activities.
