Kapawe’no First Nation – Our nêhiyawêwin (Cree) language is a very special and loving language for our Kapawe’no Nehiyawak School for many reasons. It is truly amazing we are bringing our nêhiyawêwin to the fore front of lifelong learning. We incorporate our nêhiyawêwin with english everyday with our students – Isihcikewin (to know for yourself).
Anoch (today), pon a ya mihew kisikaw (monday) niski pisim nisto (March 3) during our nehiyawewin isihcikewin, the Grade 3 class students learnt ayiwinisa (clothing) vocabulary by Mr Cory Cardinal. Mr. Cardinal uses the effective ‘repeat after me’ technique to engage students actively.

* Astisak (ahs sti sak) – gloves or mittens
* Cipwastotin (chip was to tin) – touque
* Mitas (mit tahs) – pants
* Pakowayan (pah kow why yan) – shirt
* Pihtawetasan (pee tah wee tah san) – long johns
* Piponasakay (pih pon ahs ah guy) – winter jacket
* Piponastotin (pih pon ahs to tin) – winter hat
* Tapiskakan (tahp ska kan) – scarf
