Alberta Native Hockey Championships 2025: Update from the Athletic Director

April 5, 2025

Edmonton, Treaty 6 Territory – With the final game approaching on Saturday evening, Kapawe’no First Nation and KFN Collegiate have proudly represented themselves throughout the event. There’s a positive atmosphere around the provincials, with widespread recognition of Kapawe’no First Nation’s accomplishments.

“I’ve engaged with coaches, players, competitors, parents, as well as our Hereditary Chief Halcrow this weekend; the feedback about our student-athletes’ performance has been overwhelmingly positive”, said Brian Thomas, KFN Collegiate’s Athletic Director.
Participating in an event of this magnitude is vital for the growth of the KFN Collegiate, Hockey Academy and specifically Buffalo Bay Academy.

As we progress to the playoffs, we urge coaches to involve younger athletes in attending the games, learning from their more experienced peers. Congratulations to everyone, and thank you for helping elevate Kapaweno’s standing in the provincials.
“Remember, athletes, success begins with participation, and you’ve all demonstrated that commitment.”
