KAPAWE’NO FIRST NATION NÊHIYAWÊWIN
The Renewed Heartbeat of Kapawe’no Nehiyawak
The Kapawe’no Nêhiyawak Nation stands at a unique crossroads in history. The legacies of Canada’s colonial past and the influence of churches have strained the deep connection between our proud Nehiyawak Nation, the askiy (land), wiyasiwiwinah (laws) and pikskwewin nêhiyawêwin (to speak our language).
Our future is where Nêhiyawêwin is spoken, understood, and cherished by all nêhiyawak and those connected to our Nation and schools. We envision a self-sustaining cycle of Nêhiyawêwin and Nêhiyawak way of life, where the young are the carriers of both ancestral wisdom and contemporary adaptations.
Mission: Our mission is nêhiyawêwin revitalization, empowering ourselves with its richness, healing, and reconnecting with our ancestors and land.
Vision: To speak nêhiyawêwin with pride, making it the heartbeat of Kapawe’no nehiyawak culture, deepening our connection to land and heritage.
Priority Areas:
- Promote Fluency
- Intergenerational Learning
- Nation Involvement
- Resource Enrichment
- Cultural Integration
- Technology and Multimedia:
In the shadow of a history that sought to sever their connection to the land and language, the Kapawe’no Nehiyawak Nation rises with resilience and determination. Our journey is one of healing, reconnection, and revitalization, driven by an unwavering commitment to nêhiyawêwin. Together, we aim to reclaim, rebuild, and prosper, ensuring that our language thrives as a living testament to our identity, culture, and enduring spirit.
“Journey to Our Roots: The Nêhiyawêwin Roadmap,”
The Kapawe’no First Nation sets forth on a path that is more than a strategy—it’s a promise. A commitment to our ancestors, our present Nation, and generations to follow. Our roadmap plots a course deeply entrenched in traditions, ensuring the vibrancy of our ancestral voice in every step we take.
