Welcome

In Loving Memory of Florence Murdoch – Kapawe’no Nêhiyawak School

December 15, 2023

Dear Kapawe’no Nêhiyawak School / Buffalo Bay Academy Staff and Students,

It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of our beloved staff member, Florence Murdoch. Florence’s journey across the river leaves a void in our hearts and our schools. Her spirit, dedication, and love for our students and education have touched us all deeply.

In honor of Florence, we will be holding a ceremonial sharing circle on Monday 18 December at 8:30am. Our kihew feather, a symbol of healing and strength, will guide us through.

Please note, in respect of this time, there will be no school for students on Monday. Classes will resume on Tuesday. We understand the importance of providing support and care during this time. Students who wish to reach out over the weekend for support can contact us, we will be passing on the numbers of a crisis response team to assist any students, parents and staff in the grieving process over the weekend.

Let us come together as schools and Nation to honor Florence’s memory and support each other during this time. Her legacy will continue to inspire and guide us.

With heartfelt condolences, kinanaskomin.

First Nation Collegiate
Jorden Theissen, Kapawe’no Nêhiyawak School / Buffalo Bay Academy
