Kapawe’no First Nation – We are introducing a new program at First Nation Collegiate; includes Kapawe’no Nêhiyawak School and Buffalo Bay Academy. This program integrates Nêhiyawak way of life and Pwatisimowin (Powwow) into our daily teaching classroom curriculum.
Our approach aims to blend Nêhiyawak way of life and knowledge with our current learning methods. Our focus is to deepen students’ understanding for Nêhiyawak way of life.
Pwatisimowin, is significance in Nêhiyawak way of life. We align this with the Seven Sacred Grandmother / Grandfather Teachings of the Nêhiyawak: Sakihitowin (love), Manacihtowin (respect), Sohkitehewin (courage), Kwayaskitatsowin (honesty), Iyinisiwin (wisdom), Tapahteyimisowin (humility), and Tapwewin (Truth).
To ensure the program’s authenticity, we have been working with Nêhiyawak Knowledge Keepers and Nation members. Teachers continue to learn and share their knowledge assuring effective teaching.
We recognize challenges like resource needs and balancing the new content with our existing programming. The benefits – cultural preservation and an enriched learning experience – makes this effort important.
