Welcome

Valentine’s Day Enriched by Sakihitowin and Ototemiwewin at Kindergarten / Grade 1 class

February 14, 2024

Kapawe’no First Nation – Mrs Jackie Halcrow’s Kindergarten / Grade 1 class celebrated Valentine’s Day with a special guest, Mrs Candace Cardinal. She read a children’s book about Sakihitowin (love) and Ototemiwewin (friendship), engaging the students with her expressive Acimowin (storytelling). The atmosphere was warm and the story resonated with the day’s theme of one of the 7 Sacred Grandmother / Grandfather teachings of Sakihitowin (love).

After the reading, the children participated in a Valentine’s Day craft. This hands-on activity sparked creativity and excitement, as each student crafted their own unique piece. The room buzzed with energy and Muskwak school pride as they displayed their work, a reflection of their individual perspectives and emotions.

The celebration concluded with sweet treats for the students to decorate. This simple, joyful act brought smiles and a sense of community, rounding off the day with a shared experience of decorating and enjoying treats together.
