Kapaweno First Nation – Kapawe’no Nêhiyawak School’s Grade 5/6 class, under the expert guidance of Ms. Sam Tomkins, proudly showcases the accomplishments of Brian D. Thomas, an inspiring figure whose athletic prowess extends beyond national records to the global stage of the Olympics. His legacy of dedication and excellence continues to influence the students and nation.

From Record Holder to Role Model
Brian D. Thomas, a former Olympic athlete, set a Canadian high school record in long jump that stands unchallenged to this day. His commitment to athletics earned him a scholarship at the University of Alabama, where he became a three-time All-American athlete. His journey from the Olympics to becoming a valued educator and community activist illustrates the power of perseverance and discipline.

A Legacy of Leadership and Learning
Today, Brian D. Thomas enriches Kapawe’no Nêhiyawak School and Buffalo Bay Academy as the Athletic Director. He integrates his comprehensive experience in sports with a deep commitment to student development. His approach nurtures athletic ability and instills the core values of respect, determination, and academic excellence, shaping the leaders of tomorrow. He leads our Confident Student Athlete program with the support from the administration.
