Kapawe’no First Nation – At all our schools – First Nation Collegiate; Kapawe’no Nêhiyawak School, Buffalo Bay Academy and FNVLC we are dedicated to fostering the growth of our nation by instilling the Seven Grandmother/Grandfather Teachings into the heart of our learning programs. Recognizing the importance of these teachings in guiding our students, we integrate them into daily lessons and interactions, aiming to cultivate an environment of Sakihitowin, Manacihtowin, Sohkitehewin, Kwayaskitatsowin, Iyinisiwin, Tapahteyimisowin, and Tapwewin.
Our approach begins with our Knowledge Keepers and teachers who raises an Kihew feather to mark the creation of our sacred space, encouraging trust and respect. Our teachings begin here with;
1. Love (Sakihitowin) symbolized by the Eagle (Kihew), emphasizes acceptance and compassion without conditions.
2. Respect (Manacihtowin) represented by the Buffalo (Sakawmostos), teaches reverence for all life and the environment.
3. Courage (Sohkitehewin) carried by the Bear (Muskwa), instills the strength to face challenges bravely.
4. Honesty (Kwayaskitatsowin) portrayed by the Sasquatch (Mistapew), encourages integrity in thoughts and actions.
5. Wisdom (Iyinisiwin) symbolized by the Beaver (Amisk), promotes the use of knowledge for the collective good.
6. Humility (Tapahteyimisowin) embodied by the Wolf (Mahikan), teaches us our place within the larger tapestry of life.
7. Truth (Tapwewin) represented by the Turtle (Miskinahk), fosters a commitment to authenticity and self-honesty.
The Sharing Circle serves as a dynamic learning tool where each participant, holding a rock that represents one of the teachings, shares personal reflections, stories, and lessons learned. This practice reinforces the teachings and enhances personal collective wisdom and balance.
