May 12, 2024

Kapawe’no First Nation – At Kapawe’no Nêhiyawak School, the kindergarten and Grade 1 playground buzzes with energy and enthusiasm. As children engage with the swings and navigate the play set, they blend play with learning. Each step on the playground is a step toward lifelong learning, where Nêhiyawêwin words learned in class echo in their playful shouts and teamwork.

Teachers interact closely, guiding the children in their progress. This outdoor classroom time sets supports essential life skills such as cooperation, problem-solving, communication and staying balanced. Through joy and shared experiences, our young learners are setting the foundations of knowledge, manâhcihitowin (respect), and miyo pimacihowin (way of life) that will support them throughout their lives.

Our approach reflects the school’s dedication to fostering an environment where learning is not just about formal lessons but nurturing the whole child for a bright, enduring future. Safety in the playground and close to Mother Earth is our priority.
