Kapawe’no First Nation – On Thursday, May 23rd, after school, the weather and field conditions were perfect, setting the stage for our lacrosse team’s strategy against the formidable Atikameg School. Despite being outnumbered, our spirits remained undeterred.
Before the game, we devised a sound strategy to spread our wingers and exhaust the opposing team. Our student-athletes trusted their training and executed the plan. Their conditioning, honed by regular mile runs, was evident as we outpaced, outmaneuvered, and outshot our opponents.
Atikameg School, with many athletes, faced our team of seven. Despite the numbers, our athletes never gave up, running tirelessly until the final whistle. Kael Cardinal and Benjamin McLeod scored, leading our school to a narrow 3-2 victory.
The next game will be on Tuesday at Atikameg’s home field.
