Elders Knowledge Council Meets with First Nation Collegiate Executive Team

Kapawe’no First Nation – The Elders Knowledge Council (EKC) recently met with the executive team at the First Nation Collegiate, which operates four schools: Kapawe’no Nêhiyawak School, Buffalo Bay Academy, First Nation Virtual Learning Centre (FNVLC), and Outreach/Adult Learning.

Since the 2021/22 school year, the EKC has been supporting the operations and providing guidance to the schools of Kapawe’no. In their latest meeting, the EKC and the executive team reviewed the Life Long Learning Council and discussed the new structure moving forward. This session allowed the EKC to delve into various action items and provide valuable insights.

The 2023/24 school year remains under review, aiming for continuous improvement for the next academic year. The EKC also reviewed the newly appointed and hired staff, having played an integral role in the interview process and selecting from many great applicants.

Accreditation will be reviewed next meeting. The EKC and the FNC will be announcing an open house to meet citizens of Kapawe’no and will be conducting open houses in the surrounding Nations to promote Lifelong Learning.
