Kapawe’no First Nation – The Nêhiyawêwin program is advancing to the next level by integrating direct teacher involvement and altering lesson plans to fit an immersion school program for all grade levels.
Teachers have been learning directly from Nêhiyawêwin Keepers Linda Gladue and Angela Courtoreille along with Mr Cory Cardinal taking the lead on Blooket and integration into the core subjects. Our keepers have joined the teachers and staff in morning sessions before the online studio lessons with all students. During mid-morning classroom sessions, teachers transform their learning into teaching, leading with the support of the keepers, focusing on conversational Nêhiyawêwin. Additionally, support has been provided to students and teachers during outdoor activities in the playground and tipi classroom.
“This is greatness, tapwi miyason, as we say in the studio with our students showcasing their talents with the drum to speaking Nêhiyawêwin. We are extremely proud of our teachers and students”, said Boh Kubrakovich-Kiniw, Superintendent and also the Nêhiyawêwin and Pimachihowin Keeper.
