Kapawe’no First Nation / Big Stone Cree Nation – On Monday 23 September 2024, we explored the delicate craft of beading small rings, creating intricate designs. By the end, we had crafted beautiful pieces we can proudly wear as our unique works of art!

The first day off the 3rd Annual Cultural Days event, themed “Reconnecting Our Spirit,” which had taken place from September 22nd, 2024, at the BCN Grounds in Wabasca, Treaty 8 Territory. Hosted by FCSS MD Opportunity No 17 Family and Community Support Services, the event aimed to immerse attendees in Nehiyawak pimachiowin and being through various activities, performances, and educational opportunities.
Students and staff were invited to meet Knowledge Keepers and engage in a wide range of traditional practices such as moose hide tanning, dry meat making, fry bread making, plant identification, slingshot making, bow/arrow making and art therapy stations.
Later in the week at BCN if you have time to visit will be sessions on traditional tea preparation, pow wow drumming, hand games, medicine walks, fire making, and setting up a trappers tent. Cultural teachings, including Cree language panels and Treaty 8 teachings, will be given, alongside practical sessions like bannock on a stick, birch bark moose caller making, and tipi pole teachings.
