October 18, 2024

Sylvin Lake, Treaty 6 – On Friday, October 20th, 2024 our Nehiyawewin keepers from Kapawe’no First Nation Collegiate attended the “Speak Indigenous Language Gathering” in Sylvan Lake. Mrs. Linda Gladeu, Ms. Angela Courtorielle, and Mr. Boh Kubrakovich joined this important event, showcasing their commitment to preserving and promoting nêhiyawêwin. They focus on teaching nehiyawewin, a vital component of pimachimowin in our schools. This year Kapawe’no Nehiyawak School teachers are advancing and incorporating nêhiyawêwin within the four core subjects.

During the event, they highlighted their use of the Nehiyawewin Isihcikewin program. This approach serves as a foundational platform for students from kindergarten through to Grade 12. Activities included morning sessions, classroom learning, and expressions of pimachimowin through song and music as well with Mr Colin Campbell. Through these initiatives, Kapawe’no First Nation Collegiate aim to inspire a new generation to embrace and continue pimachimowin and wakotowin.
