October 18, 2024

Sylvan Lake, Treaty 6 – Sage Cardinal and Caprice Cardinal, two young cousins from Kapawe’no Nehiyawak School, recently participated in a vibrant powwow in Sylvan Lake this weekend. Both students are in Mrs. Jackie Halcrow’s Grade 1 & 2 class and embraced the opportunity to engage in this cultural celebration. This powwow brought to you by Powwow Times is known for its many drums, intertribal dances, all dance categories and ceremonies, providing an enriching experience for them and all dancers, drummers and guests.

Participating in the powwow in Sylvan Lake this weekend gave Sage and Caprice a unique chance to connect with their Nehiyawak pimachimowin outside the classroom setting. The powwow this weekend played a crucial role in preserving and sharing our culture, especially for young students. Sage and Caprice’s involvement highlights the importance of these traditions in their education and personal growth, emphasizing nation building and lifelong learning.
