Buffalo Bay Academy Welcomes New Hockey Development Coordinator: Sergiy Ivanyuk

Kapawe’no First Nation – KFN Collegiate’s Athletic Department and Buffalo Bay Academy (BBA) is thrilled to announce the appointment of Sergiy Ivanyuk as our new Hockey Development Coordinator, ushering in an exciting era for our on-ice hockey, synthetic ice development and conditioning programs. With vast experience spanning over 38 years in both playing and coaching, Sergiy joins our team to guide our budding athletes and hockey players. His journey began within the Soviet hockey system, having graduated from the Olympic Hockey School in Kyiv, Ukraine, before immigrating to Canada in 2011. With expertise honed through playing and coaching stints in Montreal, Edmonton, and Calgary, Sergiy brings a wealth of knowledge and success in tech and power skating instruction for youth.

Starting immediately, Sergiy will be pivotal in organizing the hockey teams representing Kapawe’no First Nation and BBA at native provincials adding to the experienced and advanced coaching staff we already have. Additionally, he will play a crucial role in the newly established hockey residency program, set to debut in the 2025/26 school year. This program will feature elite teams ranging from U11 to U18 AAA/AA levels. Committed to ongoing professional development, Sergiy holds notable accolades, including the NCCP certification, with further advanced coaching education pursuits. His expertise in video analysis and sports psychology will be instrumental in refining our players’ performances and guiding them toward making well-informed decisions on and off the ice.
