Kapawe’no First Nation – In a great display of nation spirit, pimachimowin and nehiyawewin revitalization, LLL Council Chair / Councillor Debbie Chalifoux recently visited the Nehiyawewin Isihcikewin virtual session to commend students and leaders committed to preserving Nehiyawewin. Hosted by Boh Kubrakovich-Kiniw, the daily session featured our classrooms – students and teachers, Elder Knowledge Keeper Don Cunningham, who shared profound insights and traditional approaches to learning. The early morning session celebrated the resilience and dedication of learners and educators alike, working tirelessly to ensure nehiyawewin thrives for future generations. Councillor Chalifoux who is doing an amazing job promoting lifelong learning within the Nation and territory highlighted the students’ progress, emphasizing the incredible impact of their hard work and enthusiasm in embracing nehiyawewin and pimachimowin pushing the importance of wakotowin.Elder Don Cunningham’s passionate address highlighted the unique strategies and collaborations within the KFN Collegiate to rejuvenate nehiyawewin. Drawing from his rich experience, knowledge and the ability to speak nehiyawewin, he encouraged students to delve deeply into their language, embracing both traditional wisdom and modern tools. The virtual morning session fostered a sense of unity and purpose, reminding participants of the pivotal role they play in revitalizing their language.
With such committed mentors and leaders, the path to preserving Nehiyawewin remains strong, guiding many toward linguistic proficiency and nehiyawak pimachimowin.
