Kapawe’no First Nation – Kapawe’no Nêhiyawak School and Buffalo Bay Academy proudly opened its doors to welcome Constable Chief Body, the newly appointed member of the Lakeshore Regional Police Service, following an impressive 16-year tenure at his previous post. In an effort to integrate into the Nations, Constable Chief Body and Constable Dornbusch invested their time visiting various parts of the school, fostering a bond with students and teachers alike. Their visit included a special stop at Mrs. Sharkawi’s Grade 4 class, where students warmly received him with heartfelt enthusiasm. This connection provided a platform in strengthened the communal ties between the school and the Lakeshore Regional Police Service.
During the visit, Mrs. Sharkawi’s Grade 4 class paid tribute to Chief Body with the Muskwak Spirit song, extending an invitation for him to join. The students proudly showcased their nêhiyawak pimachimowin in singing “The 12 Days of Christmas” in nehiyawewin, demonstrating their linguistic skills and deep-rooted traditions. Chief Body’s engagement with the students reflects his commitment to nurturing a safe and inclusive environment, marking a promising start to his new role.
