Kapawe’no First Nation – Superintendent Boh Kubrakovich-Kiniw praises the combined focus on academics and miskwami mitawiwin (hockey), calling it a winning formula for success. This approach aligns with the nation’s commitment to continuous learning and growth, knowledge ever increasing referred to in nehiyawewin as kiskêyihtamowin wîhkâc yahki. The integration of strong academic and athletic programs builds a solid foundation for young athletes in our schools at Kapawe’no First Nation Collegiate.
The Buffalo Bay Academy Muskwak hockey program is expanding this year, participating in the Alberta Native Hockey Provincials. New teams are set to compete at various levels, including U11, U13, U15, and U18. Additional elite teams for both U15 and U18 will join the ranks, alongside a potential female team at U15. The program anticipates this growth as a step towards broader success, hoping for positive results and development for all participants involved. The 2025/26 year shall be a step forward for the Buffalo Bay Academy after continued push with full time hockey teams.
