Kokum’s Christmas Series Comes Alive

December 6, 2024

Kapawe’no First Nation – Our KFN Collegiate Music Program is introducing a creative initiative titled “Kokum’s Christmas” Series, where students will adapt a classic holiday song into a localized version. Each grade, from one to twelve, is tasked with the responsibility of bringing one verse to life through various creative mediums such as art, music, and performance. This adaptation fosters creativity and connects students with nêhiyawak pimachimowin through verses that are meaningful and locally inspired.

The outcome of Kokum’s Christmas will serve as both a social media series and a part of a live concert. Each verse will be shared as a daily social media post, highlighting student-created visuals or performances. This digital narrative will culminate in the Winter Celebration Concert on Thursday, December 12, at 6 pm, where the entire song will be presented either live or through a recorded compilation. This promises to be a celebration of culture, creativity, and nation spirit, showcasing the talents and efforts of the students involved.
