Kapawe’no First Nation – Students from Kapawe’no Nehiyawak School and Buffalo Bay Academy had the opportunity to participate in a bannock-making event hosted by Elder Knowledge Keeper Herman Sutherland and Mr Scott Courterielle. Held in our outdoor tipi classroom, this was more than just a cooking session; it was a nêhiyawak mino pimachimowin experience. Students learned the hands-on process of making bannock on a stick, guided by the wisdom and expertise of our LAWF keepers. This activity allowed our students to gain a deeper understanding of traditional practices, opening a window into nêhiyawak mino pimachimowin.
Our students truly enjoyed their time spent in this learning yet fun setting. Cooking outdoors in the tipi added a sense of adventure and connection to the past, allowing them to step away from their usual classroom environment. Engaging with Elder Sutherland and Mr Scott Courterielle provided them with invaluable insights and stories, making the day both memorable and rewarding. Through this experience, students learned a new skill and created lasting memories tied to the nêhiyawak mino pimachimowin and LAWF teachings.
