Kapawe`no First Nation – We would like to say thank you for allowing us to take the Grade 4 class to go watch the Dog Man movie. It was truly an invaluable experience for the Grade 4 students as part of our language arts curriculum. As we have been studying the Dog Man book within our phonics, story elements, and grammar unit, the movie provided an engaging and dynamic way to reinforce the concepts we’ve been learning. Students enthusiastically identified punctuation, analyzed word choices, and saw firsthand how these elements contribute to the humour and overall tone of the story.
Students were also able to identify and relate the Seven Grandmother and Grandfather teachings to the movie: such as, sohkitéhéwin (courage) from characters to face challenges and respect through the willingness to help their friends.
The visual aspect of the movie also helped students connect deeper with key story elements, such as character development and plot structure. Additionally, the film gave students a clear example of how dialogue and sentence structure come to life in a narrative. This experience has enhanced their understanding of grammar and storytelling in a fun and memorable way.
