Kapawe’no First Nation – Alexander (Sandy) Laughlin is the youngest of four sons born to Dr. Robin and Vivian Laughlin, who moved to Canada from Scotland in 1975. Raised in High Prairie, Alberta, he continues to live on the farm purchased from his parents in 2008. Sandy graduated from E.W. Pratt High School in 1998. He holds a certificate in Ornamental Horticulture from Olds College, earned in 2004, and attained his Red Seal in Plumbing and Gas Fitting in 2009.
In 2022, Sandy changed his career direction by graduating from the Addictions and Mental Health Counselling Diploma Program at Northern Lakes College, driven by a commitment to assist those facing addiction challenges. He is also a proud father of two daughters, Keira, 18, and Gracie, 19, who both live in High Prairie.
Sandy is heavily involved in his community, volunteering for youth sports, pond hockey, and high school football. He coaches Junior and Senior hockey teams and provides security for local public events. Additionally, he mentors individuals focused on personal development and physical fitness, evidencing his commitment to community support.
Recently, Sandy accepted the role of Head Fitness Trainer / Mentor / Sport Leadership at Kapawe’no First Nation Collegiate/Buffalo Day Academy, an opportunity he appreciates. He looks forward to collaborating with staff and parents to enhance the educational experiences of students.
