The Importance of Manacihitowin on Pink Shirt Day at KFN Collegiate

February 26, 2025

Kapawe’no First Nation – On an important day at KFN Collegiate and its schools, like Pink Shirt Day, the values of manacihitowin, or respect, resonate deeply. The message is clear: we must honor and care for one another while recognizing the responsibility we have towards our land. When we demonstrate respect, it nurtures relationships and fosters a supportive community.

The concept of manacihitowin teaches us that respect is mutual; when we respect others, we invite respect in return. Harmful actions only serve to damage our connections and the environment around us. By embracing respect, we can create a positive atmosphere for all, ensuring that kindness prevails over bullying every day.

Manacihitowin (Respect) – Buffalo carries and gives us the gift of respect, to respect others so that they see you respect them. If you do harm and only do good for yourself, you harm yourself and our land.
