Kapawe’no First Nation – Teachers at Kapawe’no Nêhiyawak School and Buffalo Bay Academy are taking proactive steps to further integrate nêhiyawêwin into their teaching practices. During lunch, they dedicate time to learn on their own, focusing on strategies to enhance the language experience for their students. This ongoing professional development reflects their commitment to nêhiyawak pimachimowin.
The KFN Collegiate schools have been participating in Nêhiyawêwin Isihcikewin (Online) and classroom learning from Ms. Linda Gladue for three years now. Recently, the teachers have added to their learning by joining the Nêhiyawêwin Circle hosted by our Superintendent with Ms. Gladue, Mrs. Charlene Noskey and Mr. Glady Anderson, where they learn to incorporate nêhiyawêwin into the four core subjects throughout the school day.
This initiative aligns with the mission and vision outlined in “The Renewed Heartbeat of Kapawe’no Nêhiyawak”. The roadmap emphasizes the need to reclaim and revitalize nêhiyawêwin, ensuring it remains a solid part of the nation.
