Kapawe’no First Nation – The Kapawe’no Nehiyawak School continued its vibrant Nehiyawak Reading Program today, hosting a captivating reading buddy session. Led by Grade 6/7 teacher Ms. Christine Cardinal and Grade 1/2 teacher Mrs. Jackie Halcrow, the program paired our older and younger students to help with reading skills and foster inter-grade connections.
The classrooms was alive with excitement as older students assumed the ambassador role, assisting younger students with story comprehension and word recognition. This mutual engagement significantly boosted the younger students’ reading abilities while providing essential leadership opportunities to the older students.
Greatness continues with the program introducing the nêhiyawêwin series ‘Kikskititan,’ which goes into the teachings of the Seven Sacred Grandmothers and Grandfathers, a series crafted by our nêhiyawêwin keepers.
